SKIPPERS BRIEFING THURSDAY 8TH OCTOBER AT CBSC @ 1800

WPDSAA Inter Provincial Inter Club Tuna Tournament October 2011

The Cape Boat and Ski boat Club is proud to introduce the 43rd WPDSAA Annual Inter Provincial / Inter Club Tuna tournament at our sports fishing club situated at the southern tip of Africa. Fished under IGFA rules and limited to 10Kg for provincial and 15Kg for club line class, this competition offers some of the best game angling in the world.

The opening ceremony took place on Sunday 23rd at CBSC with registration, the boat draw and the traditional auction.

Day1: Due to the current wind conditions out in the deep the fishing for Monday 24th was called off. Some local snoek boats went out to Buffels Bay and Rocky Bank and did well with Yellowtail and Snoek.. This gave us the first day to fix all our fishing tackle and enjoy a good day at the club...

Day2. A weather call for Tuesday 25th October was called at 05h00am by the weather committee and it was called ON for the day. After a quick famous Cape Boat breakfast at the club, it was collecting bait and launching for the 07h00 start from boat rock. All boats got away and it was a bumpy ride to the canyon and the fist days fishing in the comp. Some nice yellowfin tuna in the 60Kg class were landed as well as some Longfin Tuna. Lines up was at 15h00 and all arrived back at the club for the weigh-in with Budgie at the scales. After super it was a few drinks at mahogany reef and off to bed early , ready for the next day., although some lasted a little longer!!!!     More tomorrow!!!

Day 3. Wednesday 26th October.... After a 50:50 weather call the comp was finally called ON. Although it was a tough 3 hours going getting to the fishing grounds the fleet finally arrived with lots of Longfin and some Yellow's arriving after the turn in the tide. At about 11h00 am the Juniors decided to call it a day as they were being thrown all over the boat. Not long after that the fleet decided to call the comp off for safety reasons....and return to the club....1 large yellow and about 10 Longfin were weighed....

Day 4 Thurday 27th was called off due to the winds and large swells in the deep and make it a rest day.....

Day 5. Friday 28th the wind  finally decided to drop and we again headed for the deep...At the 11h00 am call the report was none of the boats had any fish.... Finally late in the day they found a stern trawler and the Tuna...The wind and the swell continued to drop all afternoon until lines up at 15h00. Two large tuna in the 60Kg class were weighed with longfin by most teams.....Things were now looking exciting as all teams were now fighting for top position...and there was still one more days fishing ahead....MORE TOMORROW!!!!! THE LAST DAY!!!!

Day 6. Saturday 29th the wind dropped away completely and the swell was small, so it was comp on for the last day with lines up at 14h00. After a quick breakfast and sorting out the bait , I was lucky and spent the day at sea on Midnight Blue with Peter and the gang and the rest of the fleet. The divers were also able to get to sea. We headed 280 from the point to join the others around the stern trawlers and a good days fishing in the deep. The junior team were soon into a big Yellow with Sam Brown fighting a fish on Gotcha. Reports filtered in of other fish hooked and a lot of Longfin on the back lines. At 14h00 it was lines up and back to the club for the final weigh in and the prize giving at 19h00.  Top provincial team was WP with EP second. The top club team was Vikings with CBSC Juniors in second place....Top skipper was Mike Pulcella on Gotcha. The divers shot 3 Yellowfin Tuna the biggest being 89Kg.

Overall a very successful comp with 4 days at sea and plenty of Tuna around....All the pics and results have been posted.!!!!!
